What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation involves using implants in order to increase the size of the breasts. The body’s own fat can also be used during breast augmentation. It was the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in 2008, with around 307,000 breast augmentation procedures performed.

At Athena Plastic Surgery in Stuart and Palm Beach Gardens, we offer breast augmentation procedures to help women add volume to their breasts. Our medical team, led by Dr. Avron Lipschitz, will work with you to understand exactly what you’re looking for from this procedure. Doctor Avron can create a customized treatment plan for you that is tailored to your individual wants and needs. Contact Athena Plastic Surgery today to schedule your consultation.

Is Breast Augmentation Right For Me?

The decision to get breast augmentation, or any surgical procedure, is a deeply personal one. You should not get this procedure for anyone else. Healthy women whose breasts are fully developed are considered the ideal candidates for this procedure. Women are also considered a good candidate for this procedure if their breasts are asymmetrical. Additionally, if the breasts have lost volume due to weight loss, aging or pregnancy, then a woman can also get breast augmentation.

What to Expect during Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

During your consultation with Dr. Avron, your goals and expectations will be discussed. He will also discuss the medications that you are taking, and the different options you have and make recommendations.

How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation

There are a few things you will have to do before getting breast augmentation. If you take certain herbal supplements or blood thinning medications, then you will most likely be advised to stop before your surgery. Blood thinning medications and certain herbal supplements can potentially increase the risk of bleeding. If you are a smoker, then you will be asked to discontinue smoking before your surgery. Smoking can interfere with the healing process.

Recovery Time

The recovery time can vary from patient to patient. We will give you specific instructions on things you can do to recover. You are likely to experience soreness and swelling in the breast area after surgery. This swelling and soreness can last for a few weeks. You will likely have to wear a support bra for the first one or two weeks after you get surgery.

You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for the first few weeks after your procedure. Pain medication can be used to eliminate any discomfort that you feel during your procedure.
