What is Otoplasty?
Whether the ears protrude prominently from the head, are overly large, or are misshapen due to injury or deformity, Dr. Lipschitz can help restore a more balanced, natural appearance with otoplasty surgery performed in our Stuart office. Rather than hiding your ears underneath hats or hair, otoplasty surgery is a permanent solution that can restore your confidence in your ear appearance.
What Happens During Otoplasty?
The extent of your otoplasty surgery may depend on the type of correction that is necessary. During your consultation with Dr. Lipschitz, your unique procedure will be discussed as well as what incision patterns may be necessary. Typically during this type of procedure, incisions are made either at the back of the ear or within the natural skin folds in order to reduce visible scarring, and depending on the level of correction necessary, permanent sutures may be placed within the ear to hold them into place or the ear cartilage may be manipulated to create a more balanced, pleasing appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for Otoplasty?
During your consultation, several factors will be considered to determine your candidacy for this procedure, such as your overall health, medical history, aesthetic goals and expectations.
What is the Recovery Like?
Bandages may be placed on the ears after surgery in order to protect the new contours and incision sites. It is common to experience mild discomfort during the initial healing process, which can be controlled with prescribed medication. Doctor Lipschitz will provide all necessary aftercare instructions so you can properly care for your incisions and reduce the risk of post-surgical infection.
Although a short recovery period may be necessary, Dr. Lipschitz will advise you on when you can safely return to work and normal activities. You may be able to see immediate results following your otoplasty, but the full benefit of your procedure may not be evident until all post-surgical swelling and healing has subsided.
Contact Athena Plastic Surgery today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lipschitz and find out how otoplasty surgery can restore a more normal, natural appearance to large, protruding or misshapen ears.
